Jim Sumpter is the Founder, President, and CEO of CMC Financial. With more than 28 years of experience, he works with business owners, individuals, families, many of which are multiple generations.
A Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Jim provides comprehensive financial planning across cash flow, investments, insurance, retirement, income tax, and estate planning. In addition to individuals, his work includes advising entrepreneurs, estates, and trusts, with a strong emphasis on proactive tax strategies and thoughtful wealth transfer planning.
Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in Corporate Finance with a minor in Economics from the University of Alabama and later completed a Master of Taxation and an Estate Planning Certificate through Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law.
Passionate about education and mentorship, Jim serves as an adjunct professor with Samford University’s Brock School of Business, teaching business students practical financial concepts, and with the Kaplan College of Financial Planning, where he works with financial professionals.
Jim is actively involved in the profession as a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). He is also a StrongHer Money® Ambassador, supporting initiatives that empower women to build confidence and independence in their financial lives. Jim holds FINRA Series 7, 63, 65, and 31 registrations, along with Life and Health insurance licenses.
In addition to his advisory and teaching roles, Jim hosts The Financial Puzzle Playbook podcast, where he shares practical, bi-weekly insights on personal financial planning.
Jim lives in Birmingham with his wife, Jennifer. Their three grown children—Carson, Madison, and Cassidy are the inspiration for the name CMC Financial.
